John Carrington is a Savannah, Ga. based freelance photographer with more than twenty years experience. Raised in East Tennessee, John moved to Savannah to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design where he graduated with honors in 1988.  A part-time job as a photo lab technician led to a career as a photojournalist for Savannah Morning News that spanned two decades. During that time he received numerous photography awards from the Associated Press and Georgia Press Association. Working at a daily newspaper exposed John to an endless variety of subjects and events that has developed in  him the versatility to handle most any photo assignment. In 2003 he was embedded with the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division during the invasion of Iraq. He has also covered Savannah area military units deployed to Panama, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Back home, John provided all the photos for chef and author Damon Lee Fowler’s latest cookbooks, ‘The Savannah Cookbook’ and ‘Classical Southern Cooking’, both published in 2008. John has contributed to numerous publications including The New York Times, Los Angels Times, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Journal Constitution and many others. In addition he has provided work for countless trade journals and specialty publications, and websites.
